FreeCAD is parametric modeler so its approach to modelling is quite different from AutoCAD. i do use freecad but it wasnt a drop in replacement for AutoCAD

agree, technically CAD exists and we can do anything on FreeCAD that AutoCAD does but if i use AutoCAD on windows and want to switch to linux there is no replacement (file compatibility mainly, DWG doesnt play well with freecad). So a competitor was needed here.
