A vast field of complicated machinery composed of many-times-overlaid 19th century printing presses. Caught in these gears are several figures who are all writing - a bearded Greek in a loincloth, a severe doge, a grande dame, a lady upon her settee, a recording angel, two drunken clerks at a table, a tormented poet in a wig.
